DIY Zoning: News & Status

The system is operational. Four installations are known:

• Phoenix, Arizona, US: working in passive mode (HVAC controller for a forced air system is completely assembled, but not yet connected) - see the graphs;
• London, UK: completely operational (working with a water boiler);
• Minnesota, US: working with a furnace, details unknown.
• Maryland, US: DAC only, collecting temperature and humidity data.

Another round of performance optimization underway. OWAPI changes continue, mostly stability updates. Major improvements in PID controller and display implementation, with speed gains over 100%. All of the above translates into much less CPU intensive operation.

Oh, and RxTx transition, as well as JDK 1.5 transition, were noneventful. Guess it's time now to merge the JDK_15 branch back into the main trunk.

Transition to RxTx 2.1-7 (the one that uses gnu.io instead of javax.comm) seems to have gone smoothly. Uptime is getting close to 24 hours now, which, given the previous all-or-nothing upgrade history, is a good sign.

Now, let me take care of changing all the places in the documentation where the version of RxTx is mentioned...

The RxTx is the hot topic again... I barely had time to enjoy RxTx working flawlessly with JDK 1.5, but then Sun came and broked it again, releasing 3.0 version of CommAPI. Not too many people got upset right away, because the only ones that noticed it would be newcomers that don't have a copy of the old comm.jar (that's right, you can't legally download it anymore).

Well, the time has come to finally switch to gnu.io namespace. Stay tuned.
